Edit: Seller sent a replacement but the same thing happens. This one won’t even connect. I have a feeling it is a car issue since the seller seems confident in their product. FYI my car is a Kia telluride.
Edit: Working with the seller to see if I just got a bad unit so hold of on judging this product due to this review for a few more days.
Works great for connecting for google maps. For audio the quality is fine but the problem occurs that the music skips once every couple of minutes. It just pauses for about a half second or so then continues. It gets very annoying when you are singing along to music and it just stops for a moment then starts again. Really would only suggest this if you are using it for google maps and audio book. Music is just painful.

Very fast connection to both Samsung Galaxy S8+ and iPhone XR to both 2016 Ford Fusion Energi Sync3 and 2022 Toyota Rav4 Hybrid XLE.

Over the past 2 years, I’ve bought 5 different devices like this. The previous best performer was the Motorola for Android Auto on my 2018 Volt, but still suffered from decently long boot-up times and sometimes drop audio. I bought this on a whim. It connects and boots up faster than the Motorola. It’s also smaller…. It’s also cheaper.
If you need a device that actually works for your Android phone to run wireless Android Auto from a car capable of wired, then grab this.

A little finicky to install. Instructions are teeny tiny print in an itty bitty book. Barely make sense. When it is operating, the device does a great job. All of the functions are identical to what the Bronco Sport offers with Android Auto when used with a cord. We have found that the device auto-starts about 70% of the time immediately, about 20% of the time after a few moments of driving, and about 10% of the time, we have to pull the plug on the dongle and then plug it back in. A few times, we have had to re-pair it with BlueTooth (while parked safely).
The device also seems to have a hard time hearing verbal instructions compared to using it when wired. We often have to repeat the spoken navigation destination, just as an example. It sometimes works, but sometimes, it cannot seem to hear our spoken words. I’d opt for another different brand and model next time and would not recommend this unit.
Update 9-27-23. After more use, the unit continued to fail to start automatically. I have been offered a full refund and accepted it. I assume the company saw my review. I consider this great customer service and am under no obligation to edit this review.

Read the instructions first. It’s not immediately apparent you need to manually hold the button for 8 seconds the toggle between Apple Carplay and Android Auto modes.
Once it’s connected, the video stream works fine. It does take roughly 30 seconds after the start of the engine / ACC to connect to the car’s android auto system.
Audio playback is sometimes jittering. Not sure if it is the dongle or my car or the cable. I lacked the necessary tools to root cause. The audio works flawlessly when I connect by wire / bluetooth though.

Easy shift between Apple car play and android auto. Modern look for android users. Love Google

Android Auto integration with the Ford Edge navigation is not fault tolerant. I don’t know why it always locks up the navigation screen but the SOOMFON 5.8Ghz Android Auto Dongle eliminated the navigation screen lockups. I still can’t plug my OnePlus into the USB ports because the “Charge Only” option when connecting is just a big lie: it always activates Android Auto thru the cable and always locks up the navigation screen. So, because of that, I can’t charge my phone while using Android Auto. The people at the top of this pile of garbage should spend some time and billionaire’s money to fix that.

I cleared my phone’s bluetooth connection to Boss BE7ACP after running Android Auto in a wired configuration. Out of the box, this device was set for Carplay, but it would never get past the soomfon splash screen. I held the button until the light started blinking slowly, indicating Android Auto mode. I was able to get the device to connect briefly to my phone via both wireless and wifi, but there was no internet and the bluetooth connection would frequently drop. Troubleshooting, I tried holding the button to switch back to Carplay mode, but it would not do that. I tried downloading drivers and connecting to laptop for software update, and was able to eventually get the thing to switch back to Carplay. I was also able to then get my iPhone to connect and Carplay to function as expected. For fun, I tried switching back to Android Auto (primary purpose) and I was able to get that to work, once. I toggled it back to Carplay one more time, and it works fine with the iPhone, but now I can no longer get my Pixel 7 Pro to connect when the device is in the Android Auto mode. My recommendation would be to avoid this model which is supposedly able to support both modes and just go with a device specific to either Carplay or Android Auto.
