Purchased to replace old similar HP laptop. Nice features, but had to buy USB CD/DVD drive as this one didn’t have installed internal (not big deal, as don’t use much). Fairly fast, nice responsive keyboard, excellent screen resolution. This one has Windows 11 Home, so some learning curve as old one was Windows 8.1 (using legacy Classic setup), and haven’t loaded the old programs yet, so will see how works then with bunch of multi-tasking going on. Included a SD card reader, which was not on list of installed items. USB’s do not appear to be 3.0, but work fine. Found issue with warranty date when hooked up to HP to register, even though it indicated came from HP Store, and had some upgrades (16GB DDR4 RAM and 1TB SSSD)–HP Support is VERY awkward/difficult, but after about 6 hours work, finally got this resolved). Will see how holds up on further use.

This is a fantastic laptop. It came with Windows 11 but I immediately dual-booted it with Linux Mint 20 Cinnamon. Setting that up was pretty straightforward following basic instructions online. I’m very glad I got the laptop with a physical ethernet port b/c out of the box the wireless adapter wouldn’t work on Mint. All I had to do was install a proprietary driver that was prompted for installation by Mint, but doing that without a wired internet connection would have been difficult. I’m particularly impressed that the built-in Bluetooth worked with Linux without any additional setup.

These days when buying computers it’s imperative to look up the CPU benchmark score for the processor b/c otherwise they’re impossible to compare. This machine has a very fast processor in this price range with plenty of memory and SSD storage. The backlit keyboard is very nice when working in low-light conditions. It’s worth noting that when working in ample light and the backlight doesn’t illuminate automatically, it can be impossible to read the keys due to the white font on silver background.

I haven’t tested the battery life. The machine is amazingly light despite being a 17″. It makes almost zero sound even when it’s working pretty hard. They keyboard and touchpad have a very smooth, high-quality feel to them. I really can’t find anything wrong with this laptop. Best part is that it was a bit cheaper on Amazon than on New Egg where I was originally shopping.

I ordered 3 of these in about 3 weeks. The last one ordered worked fine except the keyboard will just randomly stop working and you have to do a hard reset to get it back. The screens are great and they are very fast. Definitely recommend them. If I can figure out the keyboard issue I’ll update.
UPDATE: laptop crashed. It was fine one evening and dead the next morning. It won’t recover from any of the options at startup. I’ve tried everything it offers and nothing is working.

I received item, on time, ok BUT I received a notice from “Microsoft” that when I set it up it loaded a bad virus and now my computers are infected, all my cc’s, ALL everything is screwed up and to “cure this” and be “sure”, I need a better virus protection !! They suggested some brand @ $500/year !
I write this in HOPE Amazon will help keep them out of my cc I use for Ama purchases only. The tasks I am facing to change checking, banking etc is HUGE. NOTE: I do not KNOW or SUGGEST the seller sold me a computer w/ the virus but merely advising that the screen AND hacker person said it came from the purchase. I hope I get someone from Amazon to help tell me what to do.

At age 84 I did not anticipate buying a new computer but, my 18 year old MAC was ailing to the point that it had to be replaced. Not wanting to spend the amount of money it would take to replace it with another MAC, I opted to go with this HP. I’ve only had it for two days but I must say I’m very pleased with it so far. There isn’t a problem to report with the exception of my own LEARNING curve going from MAC operating system to the Windows operating system. I opted to upgrade to 16 RAM and 1 T hard drive. I love this lap top and would recommend it to anyone looking for a reasonably priced Lap Top.

Would have given 5 stars for this except for one major fault. The wifi on this laptop has connectivity issues. It will be fine for a few minutes then start losing connection on and off continuously. Had to grab a long ethernet cable to run from my router to my office to connect to internet as I work from home.

There’s plenty of reasons this is a viable business machine, but the fact is, Windows 11 and O365 have some serious limitations that you’ll have to get used to. Not entirely the fault of the machine, just the typical “don’t care about the user” attitude in forcing Windows 11 and O365 down the throats of users. Not a do-it-yourself transition by any means and some of the instructions and “support” resources on the HP and Microsoft sites are utterly useless.
