I’ve been testing this camera for a while now, wanted to give it a good test.

Overall, I’d say it works quite well. Very nice image quality. It was easy to setup on my WiFi and phone. The instructions had what was needed to set it up. I’d say it is a basic camera; no pan/tilt/focus/zoom features, but has a microphone and speakers that work well. It does have zoom from within the App however. This is a phone App only camera, so most likely will not work on a PC without major messing around if at all (support says no PC).

One of the main reasons for testing for so long was to test the solar panel. It seems to provide all the power needed for continuous use. And that is in a very shady area with good morning sun only. I did find the extension cable for the panel has a finicky/loose connection but does work after messing with it.

The alarm function works fine, no adjustment for area/type of motion but see’s movement and people just fine. Sends alerts reliably.

    Basically a good, simple camera.

This brief review will be followed by a more in-depth review once we have put it to ‘real life’ use with our very specific needs. We recently bought a cabin in the mountains and have satellite WiFi. We have to winterize from Oct to March so this seems like a perfect option to keep an eye on the cabin during the winter. Not having to plug into power is the most attractive feature for our situation. So far the camera and app have worked flawlessly. We are happy to be able to record to an SD card but we also want to compare the SD recording to the cloud based option. I started by fully charging the battery before setting up outside. One criticism is the User’s Manual could be more detailed in the instructions and the small grey print is very hard to read. One example is I’m hoping the extra long (8ft) charging cable means I could possibly mount the camera up to 8ft away from the solar panel rather than mounting them together as a unit. I don’t know if it would work that way but it would be nice to have that option. The manual does not address that unless I overlooked it. I’m also wondering how it will work when my phone and the camera are not on the same WiFi? So 4 stars for now pending more testing and trying to figure out what the manual doesn’t explain. The camera and solar panel feel very solid and well made. The packaging was very professional and delivery was prompt even to a small mountain community.

The media could not be loaded.

I’ve got a few cameras scattered around my yard, mostly to capture suburban wildlife (cats, raccoons, cats, squirrels, cats). Some are FHD and some are 2K. This camera is FHD (1920×1080), but I’d say the picture quality is pretty good. I’ve included a video that I made just now. It’s FHD on a fairly sunny day. It doesn’t show much, but it should give you an idea of the quality.

One of the first things you’ll notice when you unbox this camera is the many options you have for mounting it with its companion solar panel. You can either mount the panel directly to the top of the camera (that’s what I did) or mount the solar panel separately and connect it with provided cables. They provide a short cable on the solar panel and a long micro-usb extension cable. The extension cable includes a cover to keep water out where the cables plug into each other. They provide screw-hole templates for the camera and the solar panel and a full set of screws and drywall anchors in case you need them. It’s very complete and provides a lot of options. The mounts are the ball-and-socket type, so you can aim the camera and the solar panel where you want them.

Of course, it’s very handy to be solar powered. I installed it in a location where I don’t have convenient power. I’ve had it going for a week or so, and the battery indicator in the app looks nearly full every time I’ve checked it. I’m getting 4-6 motion triggered alerts per day and so far none at night. You’re not going to be able to do continuous 24/7 monitoring with it, but you don’t expect that with solar power.

The down side of this camera is that it’s yet another camera that needs a proprietary app to access it. It seems like every different camera, even from the same brand, needs some different phone/tablet app to access it. Even though I really don’t like that, I can’t knock this camera for requiring an app since most of the low-cost cameras are set up that way. It makes it tricky or impossible to integrate the camera into any home automation or home security system.

However, I have to say that I dislike the UBox app needed for this camera. Its user interface is attractive enough and looks modern in design. The problem is that there’s no explanation of what some of the options do. For example, there is a setting called “Scene mode”, with the choices “Normal” and “Night Mode”. What’s the difference? Beats me. After a few experiments, I couldn’t make heads nor tails of it. There is another setting called “Sleep delay”. I thought that would be how much video was captured on motion detection before the camera went back to standby, but it doesn’t seem to be the case. There are several things like that, and there is no help in the app. Here are some things I have yet to figure out (maybe they are not possible with this app):

    – I want the camera to switch to IR night vision automatically when it gets dark and switch off IR night vision when it’s light again. I figured out how to switch it manually, but that’s not really acceptable.

    – I want to block out some areas from motion detection (waving branches and so on). As far as I can tell, the entire frame is considered for motion detection.

It seems likely that if I chase the information enough I can figure all this stuff out, but I shouldn’t have to. If you are willing to do that, you will have an nice piece of hardware at a decent price.

That said, setup of the camera through the app was pretty simple and easy. It’s voice guided (the voice is very loud), and you pair it by showing the camera a QR code displayed by the app.

Not the best looking install, but the porch light was a mess to start with! I had to purchase an extender to move the camera outside of the porch light enclosure.

The setup is nearly flawless. Install the app, plug in the camera, tap “Add new” and follow the instructions. Great feature: the package includes an electrical outlet to bulb thread adapter. Plug the camera into the outlet inside the house to make it easier to set up, then move it to the desired location.
The image quality is quite good. One might think the colors are a bit bright, but the sunlight at the time of installation was pretty strong too.

The PTZ feature works smoothly, very little lag and the app features pre-selected location buttons, another useful feature.

The biggest problem with the product is that it needs to be extended so that it can be used in the light sockets. Especially with outside lighting. If there is an adapter to do that or they can provide one or change the design slightly to accommodate this problem then it could possibly earn a 5 star review. But sadly, I cannot say that at this time.
