This is my 3rd Under Desk Computer Keyboard & Mouse Tray, let’s call it UDT for short. I recently had to replace the UDT I’ve been using for many years because the Tilt feature failed catastrophically. I had ordered a competing UDT from Amazon (other than this one) and found some shortcomings that couldn’t be dismissed so I had to return it. I continued looking and found this model from 3M. For one, it’s the only UDT on Amazon that offers a standing function if desired. The other and this is where the other tray failed me is that the mouse tray is adjustable. Some people won’t like that the mouse tray is slightly higher than the keyboard platter of this device. But I like it because I can keep the mouse level with the armrest on my office chair. This gives me a neutral position to operate from since I point & click more often than I type. The other UDT (returned) had a mouse tray lower than the keyboard. It caused a stress point on my forearm as I used it and that was bad. More about the mouse tray; it has an adjustable position with lever-locked Tilt and Side-to-Side positions (but alas…no elevation feature) and can be switched for Right or Left handed use. It is covered with an opaque-white coarse plastic type material which 3M claims will make the mouse more efficient. My wireless Logitech Laser mouse works fine on it. This surface material is not removable. There is a plastic rail on the front side of the tray which keeps a USB mouse cord in place if you prefer a cabled mouse.

The keyboard tray comes with a gel type wrist pad which is attached by Velcro tabs that can be attached with non other than 3M tape. This is optional and I’m glad since my Microsoft Wireless Desktop Elite Keyboard has a wrist-pad built in and it can’t be removed. The other UDT that I returned had a wrist pad that was bolted on and couldn’t be removed without losing the mouse tray- MAJOR FAIL!

One of the features on this and another version of this model is how high and low the tray can be lifted and lowered on a desk. This version called the Sit or Stand which allows the tray to be lifted 10 inches above the desk and allows you to operate standing if you wish. The lowest position is 4 inches below a desk. This caused a minor issue since I have a lap-drawer at a 45 degree angle to the right of the mouse tray. Lowering and retracting the tray under the desk can be done but I have to remove the high profile mouse. No big deal because my mouse is wireless and I can place it anywhere after retracting the tray but if your mouse is tethered by a cable you may have a problem if your desk is like mine; a low profile mouse should be OK in any case. The other version of this model allows a 6 inch clearance under the desk and shouldn’t be a problem for anyone. You just can’t work while standing with it.

Installation is OK but could be greatly improved by using self-taping screws rather than forcing you to use a drill to preset the screw holes. You DON’T want to accidentally drill through the top of your desk! They make drill bit depth-stops but that is a lot of unnecessary work when there is a much simpler solution. Attach the track to the bottom of the desk with 3M Command tape which will keep the track in place so you can work hands free of holding up the track while you use the drill & screws. The track itself is greased, ball bearing slides are far superior but I’m sure they would increase the price a lot. Be careful not to get grease all over and you will occasionally have to lube the track guides.

The keyboard tray also has a side-to-side adjustment as advertised on the Amazon page. I can’t really use that function because of the configuration of my desk. But some people might find it very handy. The keyboard platter has rounded (no sharp) edges and is a plastic material rather than a composite material like with other UDTs on the market. I really like the adjustable Tilt feature of this UDT. Unlike a simple loosen and tighten lever/knob to lock the desired Tilt position in place, this tray actually allows incremental adjustments (with gears possibly?) to be made with a knob and it even has a gauge to get an exact measure. So if someone messes with the tilt, you can get right back where you had it. Very nice!

Yes, it’s more expensive but worth the price. Highly recommended.

After combing through tons of reviews on other trays and settling on this one as being one of the best, I had high hopes. Mounting is simple as it included a template for under the desk. You simply tape it in place and drill two pilot holes for the first two screws. Then after those are tightened, drill four more holes and screw in the remaining screws.

Mechanically, the slide is perfect and works very well. The tray has plenty of adjustment.

However, they really could have improved two things with this tray, which would make it nearly perfect.

First, the tray is hollow molded plastic. It’s not composite or anything solid. When my keyboard sits on the tray, I can push down on a corner and it has about 3/16″ of wobble. The tray has various high spots in the center from the locking knob that allows you to slide the tray right or left of center.

It’s especially annoying when pressing CTRL plus any function keys. Because the CTRL button pushes the corner of the keyboard down to the tray, then the function key pushes it the other way. So the entire keyboard wobbles because it’s high centered in the middle.

The second big issue is how the mouse tray mounts to the keyboard tray. The mouse tray has a metal extension that slides into slots on the side of the plastic tray. There are no fasteners to secure the mouse tray to the keyboard tray other than this hokey slide design. So the mouse tray wobbles badly even when the locking mechanism is completely secure.

If they would have engineered a way to put some screws in to secure the mouse tray to the keyboard tray and prevent this wobble, it would have been much better.

And instead of going cheap with hollow plastic for the tray and instead using some kind of composite material, that would have prevented the keyboard try warp and keyboard wobble.

This could have been a great product but instead it’s just mediocre. They should also make the mouse pad surface removable because it’s way slicker than my fabric-topped mouse pad. The mouse tray wobble causes the mouse to fall off the tray all the time. It would be much better to use a fabric pad that gives the mouse a little traction instead of the slick plastic thing they glued on it.

I could have returned it, but the adjustability and sturdiness of the slide mechanism slightly outweighs the keyboard and mouse tray wobble issues. So I’ll keep it an just shim the corners of my keyboard and put a leash on my mouse.

I love this product! Very sturdy and very adjustable in different directions to fit different positions. On the heavier side so you need a strong table to hold it, but it doesnt feel flimsy at all. Installation was alright, you will need a drill and lie on your back. The template was missing the farther end screw but I just added it anyway for extra support.

I purchased a cheap keyboard tray but quickly returned it for this keyboard tray. I have it mounted to my stand-up desk. Since I work 9 hours a day on my computer, I needed a good solution to keep my body healthy while working from home. This is a great keyboard tray. It feels sturdy and you can adjust the mouse pad. The wrist pads are a nice touch. My wrists are much happier since I bought and installed this. Highly recommend.

We bought this keyboard tray as we are getting a new built in desk. The desk has not arrived as of yet but we have the keyboard tray ready for the install. I have to say i bought 3M partly because of the name and the adjustments you can make with the keyboard tray for optimal comfort BUT my husband is most impressed with the heavy duty structure and how it is going to hold up to usage. We can not wait for the new desk to get this installed so we can use it!

It built solidly, and the tray glides effortlessly. Unfortunately, it’s not perfect, If you are spending 3-400 CAD on this tray, it should be the Rolls Royce of Keyboard-mouse trays.

    1. Assembly isn’t intuitive, thank god for the 3rd party YouTube video.

    2. Tray is small. Any of the newer keyboards need more space. The keyboard shown is the Microsoft Ergonomic Keyboard and there is no space for me to install the gel support

    3. Mouse tray should drop below keyboard not be elevated. If you have a mouse and not a trackball, I can see the movement of the mouse causing stress on your shoulder.

    4. The 4-inch depth isn’t enough for someone 6ft or over

    5. Stability. I installed it on a 1-inch desk. I am unsure if this keyboard tray will stay installed long term.

5b. The design setup of the keyboard means the mouse and tray will always feel a little shaky.

This under desk keyboard tray gets 5 stars, but the attached mousepad only gets 3 stars.

The keyboard tray fits together well, is easy to install and seems sturdy and adjustable to my liking. However, the mousepad only gets a 3 out of 5 rating.

The pad itself is a bit small and only has a top rail. The bottom pad is ok, but comes with 6 3M adhesive pads that have the round tab at the bottom so you can remove the pad without damage to the mousepad? (?). The surface of the pad is a sturdy coating that is like a rough textured plastic that is very slick and smooth. The problem with this pad is that there is only a top rail, no side guards. If you happen to slide your hand off the keyboard reaching for the (wireless) mouse and bump it to the side, it slides off the extremely slick pad and ends up falling on the ground. Likewise if you push or twist the board too fast, the (wireless) mouse goes skittering off the right edge of the mousepad.
