ATROCIOUS PRODUCT. Better just take your $150 and throw it onto a campfire. At least you will enjoy some pretty flames that way. Shame to 3M. Supposedly the experts on plastics & adhesives?? Ha !! Idiots could design way better. Here are the exact disastrous problems with this lousy piece of plastic, BUYER BEWARE:

    1. A WIDE SCREEN means that you will actually blot out the edges of your screen. The angle when you look off to the sides is great enough, to dark the edges. Bright center, dark edges, for the primary user!! Looks TERRIBLE !! They took the same lousy plastic that worked on a 19″ monitor and sell it for a 27″ monitor and the result is black out at the margins.

    2. The little tiny cheapy pieces of adhesive just barely work. The INSTRUCTIONS ARE HORRIBLE !! There are two types of the adhesive, one each side, this is NOT made clear !! The instructions don’t properly show the sequence for applying the adhesive. I managed to apply the adhesive backwards, but that was the LEAST of the problems with this $150 squandering of my funds.

    3. Do you really want nasty little 3/8″ strips of adhesive stuck to the front of your expensive $700 monitor ?!? The claims of this product is, not harmful to the monitor, I say this tacky strong adhesive strip IS harmful to the monitor!

    3. The middle of the privacy screen can bubble outwards, making horrible optical quality EVEN WORSE !! I have a monitor which leans forwards a bit, not backwards, like if you must look up at the screen. So the plastic screen hangs forwards, instead of clinging to the screen, the picture quality is awful.

    4. What happened to 3M? Guess they fired all their designers and engineers? A piece of CLING plastic would have made way more sense !!! They could have varied the pitch on the micro-louvers !!! Oh, but that would require hiring engineers, instead of middle managers, can’t go down that road!

This isn’t the first time I have squandered money, but after 2 hours and a complete mess, the terrible problems obvious, I kissed me $150 goodbye, tossed this onto a campfire and watched the pretty cloud of black smoke rise into the sky. Since you can toss the money onto the campfire directly, why go thru all the extra steps of paying 3M for plastic garbage?

RECOMMEND: Go to a popular auction site, and just get a clear PROTECTOR plastic for maybe $30 from a Hong Kong chop shop, and forget about 3M products like this one.

    Good luck !!

Great product however when looking at the screens head on the privacy screen doesn’t work. In my case I was buying it mostly for that so buyer beware. From the sides it works great.

Improved security but did not solve it. The 30 degree viewing angle is misleading as you need to get to a full 45 degrees before it functions as they claim.

++Will mention 5 star privacy screening quality first, the flaw second.++
Due to an office move, a number of us had lost our longtime offices and I quickly decided that spending $80 to cut out nosy passers-by would be like that old MasterCard commercial said: PRICELESS. I decided – after doing extensive research – that this was the best privacy screen on the market. Since getting my screen, everyone on the floor has asked me about it since it is truly remarkable. I’ve angled my computer in such a way so that you can’t see a thing unless you have entered my cube and are standing directly behind me. Make sure to measure your screen carefully, not the frame, just the screen – I’ve got a 22 inch (hence the bigger price tag). But if you haven’t, the product arrives in a box with a ruler on both sides that basically tells you – don’t open this box until you’ve measured your computer because after that, good luck returning it. Which brings me to my one complaint. Within a week of owning this screen, it dropped off my screen, onto my keyboard – not a big jump, something that an $80 product should be able to handle – and it scratched. It does affect viewing certain parts of the screen and so I’ve had to flip it inside out to try to shift the scratch location for better viewing – so I have the shiny side facing out, giving me more glare than before the screen. But given 3M’s “once you open it, that’s it” message, I’m stuck with the lifelong scratch. Just hope I don’t get more of them.

I am not sure why there are many one star reviews about this privacy filter. For me, it seems to work pretty much as advertised, as far as effectively blocking out the view from the sides. Naturally, the filter won’t provide much privacy if someone is staring at the screen directly behind the user. However, if the filter was this effective as to block out the snooping eyes directly from behind, then the user would also be prevented from seeing the screen. The installation process is very straightforward and requires putting on a couple of sticky pieces of plastic on your monitor and sliding the filter through

    Couple of issues to consider:

-In general, the filter naturally does make the screen darker to the user, however I found that turning up the brightness mostly helps solve this. For those that like their screen extremely bright and already have the brightness all the way up, there may be some initial adjustment.

-The filter is mildly reflective, so if there is a light source close to the monitor there is potential for glare. This can be fixed by reversing the filter from the glossy side to the matted one.

-My biggest issue with this filter is the price. $85 for a 22” seems rather outrageous. Although to be fair, competitor products are only a little bit less expensive. Granted, I don’t know the cost of materials and manufacturing involved in making this item, but the price still seems much higher than common sense would dictate, so I suspect there is some “profit maximization” going on as a result of patents.

All in all, it’s a good product that works as described, however due to high price I simply can’t give it five stars.

While it performs its function properly, I’m not impressed with the form. The stickers are ugly – just bits of cut tape. For some reason, the filter was about half-an-inch too big, despite having ordered to measure – had to cut a bit off the bottom, so now the whole thing (with the ugly stickers) looks like a school project gone wrong.

Also, the dimming works a bit -too- well- for the screen this size – looking at the middle of the screen, the sides are noticeably darkened. I suppose this can’t be helped.
