The dock it great works exactly as expected. The only flaw is the cable is quite short.

I really only wanted this to be able to connect my Chromecast with Google TV (“CGT”) via a network cable (RJ45 plug) directly to my router. It works, but only if I used a MacBook Pro plug or an off brand substitute. It would not work with the plug that came with the CGT. That said, it has more ports than anything else I saw to do this. However, at $54 it costs more than the CGT it self, not to mention about another $25 for the plug. But if you want/need all these features it is the way to go.

This has made my writing/recording/editing process much simpler. I no longer have to make sure my laptop is fully charged when working away from home, I can connect to the mains as well as using headphones and an external Blue Yeti mic. What a difference. So glad I bought this. Thoroughly recommended. Good quality and good value.

I have found this dongle very useful. It has all the connections I need. I have had several connection dongles from Anker and all of them have been very useful. I have also not had any issues with them. This item is an upgrade because I needed an Ethernet connection.

Product is relatively compact, with a variety of ports (including, critically for me, USB A and RJ45 Ethernet). Works flawlessly with my MacBook.
The top is some sort of metal, whilst the rest of the casing is a hard plastic, which creates an elegant design, which I expect should last a while.
Provided pouch is also quite useful to keep dock safe when dumped into a bag or tech pouch.

I knew that when I got a new laptop, I would probably need a USB-C hub. When I got a new Lenovo Yoga 6 to replace my old Yoga 2 (2014), I needed the hub because the new laptop did not have the HDMI port and SD card reader that the Yoga 2 had. I thought about getting the more expensive 8-in-1 hub that had a USB-C data port and higher video refresh rate. But I don’t have any accessories that require a USB-C connection, and I don’t currently have a 4K TV or monitor. So, this 7-in-1 hub met my needs for $20 less. (And this hub had slightly better ratings than the 8-in-1 hub.)

So far, I have tested the Ethernet port, the SD card reader, and the 2 USB-A ports. All work well. I can play music files on the SD card with no problems. I can use a wireless mouse with its connector in one of the USB-A ports. I used the ethernet connection for the initial setup of the laptop, which required a lot of data updating. I streamed a 2.5 hour movie through the HDMI port to my TV with no problem.

I have not tested charging through the hub because the Yoga 6 has 2 USB-C ports (and 2 USB-A ports). So, I can plug the charger into one port and the hub into the other port. I have not done any data transfer rate tests, but I have had no problems reading data from the SD card or the USB-A flash drive. I have not noticed any temperature issues so far. The hub is barely warm to the touch while in use. For me, the short connector cable is adequate. I don’t have to deal with any extra cord length.

For me, the main benefit of this hub is having the SD card reader and the HDMI port missing from the new laptop. I know some laptops have only one USB-C port that must be used for charging and for data transfer. So, that might be an issue for some folks using this hub. I think the key there is having the right sized charging adapter.

I purchase this USB C Hub Adapter in Sept 2019 when I got an HP Specter X360 because I wanted an RJ45 for wired internet. I need to use an item before I review it. I must say that this is simply the best tech purchase I have ever made. I have used every port on this device at some point. I have used it with Android smart phones, tablets, flash and portable hard drives, and different types of display devices. The only downside I’ve found is the lack of a USB C data port but, I attribute that to my early adaption. Best tech purchase ever.

I use this as my 2018 MBP’s primary “dock” to the world. Connected to it: apple’s power supply, ethernet cable, 1 USB A connection to my desktop hub where keyboard, mouse and webcam are connected, as well as the occasional cell phone, tablet or usb-key. The only thing *not* connected to it is my external display… it gets it’s own dedicated USB-C cable.

The vast majority of the time it is solid and reliable and JUST WORKS.

About once every 8-10 weeks however, it starts randomly flaking out. The first thing I usually notice is the network starts dropping out for a period of time… a couple seconds at first, then over the course of a week it gets longer and takes a minute or two to come back. Both my mac and the switch report the cable has been unplugged then replugged nearly instantly… but nothing actually seems to be ale to use it, then it repeats the unplug/replug and starts working again. At some point the network will get to the point where the “it says it’s all plugged in, but nothing works” phase lasts into minutes, at that point USB starts to have issues as well.

The “solution” to this is to just unplug it totally and let it sit in timeout thinking about what it has done for 10-15 minutes, then put it back and you should be good for another couple months of continuous use. It doesn’t feel excessively hot like it’s overheating or anything, but some aspect of it just isn’t happy with continual 24/7 use for months on end. That’s why it’s lost a star overall, and 2 on quality.

The missing star on portability relates to the stiff cable coming out of it… I have another company’s USB-C hub that I travel with that has a fully detachable cord so you can use any compatible USB-C to USB-C cord, it came with a short 6″ one and a long ~30″ one. That setup is far more travel friendly. The drop down ethernet jack also feels kinda flimsy after a few hundred plug/unplug cycles over the 4 months or so I’ve had this.
