I’ve found this to be a very reliable wireless router in the 3+ months that I’ve had it. It’s been very consistent and it is faster than our old one. That being said, we’ve run into a few glitches I’m happy to pass on…. This is capable of using either 2.4 or 5ghz as you would expect, but the default setting had it switching automatically when needed between the two, which resulted in it primarily staying on the 5ghz… However, anytime I tried to set up a smart device that required 2.4, the setup would rarely be successful as things would inevitably switch to the wrong band and lose connection. Eventually I realized I could split things into two separate signals and have been much happier since. Another issue we’ve had and been unable to resolve is the lack of ability to Cast to our smart TV. This worked previously, and now only works when using YouTube, and even that occasionally has to be reconnected. Airplay still will usually work, but overall the whole thing is iffy and a constant frustration. The wifi coverage has been better throughout the house than with the old router, we are two stories, about 1500sq ft. I like the look of the router and I think the app is REALLY nice, and has a lot of features that I probably haven’t even discovered how to use yet.

I purchased this ASUS RT-AX86S router to replace my older ASUS RT-AC68U router that decided to quit connecting to the internet. I was happy with the performance of the older router and I liked the ASUS phone app for interfacing with the router, so I wanted to stick to ASUS family. This new router was easy (for me) to set up and get running. ASUS does make it fairly painless to get everything up and running. This RT-86S router does seem to have a stronger signal within my house, reaching from the basement to the second floor with no issues. Data speeds are very good too. The user interface with the router, via a browser, is the same and easy to navigate. I highly recommend this router for anyone who needs a good home router.

I purchased this ASUS router after my Netgear Nighthawk started losing internet connection for a few minutes each day. The Netgear router was less than 9 months old and had a one year warranty on hardware. However, it would cost about $140 in order for a Netgear service plan in order for them to determine if it was indeed a hardware issue. I chose to instead buy the new ASUS. I have more than 30 wireless devices including 4 televisions. It has been working flawlessly for more than a month now. Even though my cable modem and router is in our basement I am getting over 400 Mbps throughout our 2,300 SF house. I originally considered a mesh network but found that unnecessary with this router. Highly recommend.
