Extremely disappointed for the high cost. Condition visually perfect for refurbished. Now the bad news. No users manual anywhere, pdf or otherwise. Battery will not charge above 65%! Thats a little over an hour. Can not swap out battery. Only information available on laptop is on removing back (dozen different sized screws) to access the drive bay and memory bay. Very poor access design. Don’t buy anything which doesn’t have a users manual. Buyer beware.

Loving this laptop. So far it handles games on ultra settings without a problem. Games I have tried that run smooth at high settings: Borderlands, Hades, Dolphin emulator, Blacksad.

It can get loud when gaming but that’s expected for the power it’s packing. Just put on headphones if it’s too loud for you. When just browsing the web or zoom calls you can set it to silent and the fans will go really quiet.

The storage is super fast and I’m glad that it’s expandable with extra m.2 slots.

My favorite feature is that you can go in the armoury crate app and lock the battery at 60% so it doesn’t degrade if you have it plugged in 24/7 like me.

Starting this off with the battery, it already has a short time when charged fully, but it comes out of the box locked at 65% (which needs to be changed via the MyAsus app that is preinstalled on the computer). Otherwise, it lasts for about an hour and a half with no load.

The storage is alright for the price, 1TB is good to start, plus it has a spot for another M.2 SSD and a SATA SSD, which can be quite helpful, the wires for the SATA one are even included in the box, thumbs up for that.

The screen is… Rather mediocre, certainly not the best colors, but you get used to it after a while and playing with the settings a bit on Armoury Crate, which also gives you the opportunity to control the RGB keyboard, which looks pretty nice.

When it comes to RAM, the 8GB it comes with is alright, but being single channel, you will see the performance being affected, I quickly switched mine to 16GB dual channel (2x8GB) and the lag spikes were gone.

The graphics card, I mean, it’s a 1650, don’t expect it to be able to run everything on Ultra, but I’ve managed to run Forza Horizon 4 on max settings and even more recent games, so it certainly does the job.

In conclusion, do I recommand it? If on sale, absolutely, 899 CAD$ is pretty cheap for what you get, of course, to access Turbo mode and play for a longer period, it will need to be plugged in. For those that are talking about the frames being locked to 30 fps while not plugged in, make sure to go unlock the settings in GeForce Experience, it automatically locks at 30, but you can turn said setting to 60fps!

We have had it a few months now. It’s a bit loud when gaming but that’s expected. We got it because my husband sometimes has dizzy spells and needs to stay in bed for days sometime. We thought he would just be using stream link to stream games from the basement gaming rig but it turns out this laptop can handle mid range games pretty well. The build quality is also holding up after several months.

I had an Asus N56VJ for about ten years. It too was designed as a crossover and it performed well, but eventually died from overtaxing the optimus chipset rendering graphics over an external monitor all the time. This middle of the road gamer with a stand alone gpu should not suffer a similar fate, I hope… I do not find the fan noise excessive in the slightest, but if I do Asus allows a good suite of adjustments. Indeed the battery saver, aka Armoury, is another fine feature. I still have much to explore…

However, after monkeying around with it for a week or so I have come to 3 conclusions: first, it is quite fast, at least compared to other systems I have used, but suffers from the included lumbering, antiquated and obstreperous operating system. It runs Linux magnificently though which shows it’s true potential. It has yet to break a sweat.
Second, I still despise windows (slow, incompetent, overbearing and regularly tries to finesse more money out of me, even though I paid for it already) but as hinted at above I installed Ubuntu 20.04lts along side (aka dual boot) and use Linux most of the time to tremendous effect. Unless I am compelled to boot into the included os, which I despise — did I mentioned that?
And third, I thought I’d miss the optical drive… but I don’t after all. This machine has all I need — and then some. If I need to access my CDs I can link up to my now extremely old MSI with an optical drive with little fuss. I’ll be ordering some USB 3 thumb drives pdq and drag myself kicking and screaming into the 21st century.

Fast delivery, fair price and it looks pretty good too.
Tough, or should I say Tuf it most certainly is! It gets the full five stars for clearly exceeding my expectations.
