I expected this Mk. 2 webcam to look a little washed out in some areas, but it stood up to my Sony Alpha Mirrorless camera, in some aspects, it made the Sony Alpha fall short. The image quality is the best I’ve ever seen in a webcam. I’m very impressed with this version of the facecam.
*** if you use it for OBS, MAKE SURE you go to camera settings in OBS and manually select custom and 1920 x 1080 for the resolution. You won’t regret it, thank you Elgato!

I was previously using the original Elgato Facecam. After seeing a friend upgrade to this, I was convinced to try it myself.

The quality out of the box is INCREDIBLE. Huge step up from the original Facecam! Tinkering with the settings (ISO, Exposure, Sharpness, etc.) helped me find my ideal look for my content. VERY easy to use! If you don’t know what the settings do, a quick YouTube search will get you the knowledge you need 🙂

The face tracking, blurred backgrounds and other AR effects you can utilize are also VERY nice. My favorite feature is being able to save settings, so you can adjust your settings for a new, one-time situation and it’ll reset the next time you load your PC.

If you’re beginning to take content creation seriously, Facecam Mk. 2 is absolutely worth the price. I have zero regrets. I used the original Facecam since it’s release, and I can see myself doing the same with the Mk. 2.

I own the original Facecam and thought this would be a good upgrade. The video quality looks VERY similar, I wouldn’t even say it’s any better to be honest. You can do face tracking and HDR but in real world testing, it’s not that big of a difference. My videos would often look more blurry with the MK2.

If you don’t have a webcam, yes get the MK2 over the Original, but it’s not worth an upgrade.

I expected nothing but greatness and this camera did not disappoint. I currently own the Elgato Facecam and love it but I must say the image quality is one of the best I’ve ever seen in a webcam thus far Don’t forget there is a face-tracking effect that comes with the camera!!! This camera is a MUST-HAVE! if you want an affordable Webcam for starters this is your only option. Highly recommend it.
    Elgato is changing the game!!!

I’ve been using the original Facecam for the past year or so and it seems that a majority of the issues I had with it have been resolved in this upgraded version. Highlights and brighter colors no longer flicker at random times, noise isn’t nearly as prominent as it was in the prior model, the monitor mount it comes with sits lower so users don’t have to tilt the camera forward quite as much to get it in the right position for filming, and the privacy cover is now attached to the body of the camera itself, so nobody has to worry about laying it down on their desk and being forgotten.

I always appreciated Elgato implementing more precise exposure controls via the shutter speed and ISO and that is still readily available here. But I’m sure I can speak for most of us when I say that the big selling point with this upgrade is the addition of HDR to the camera exposure while still running at 60fps. This new feature unfortunately feels like a bit of a double edged sword since the camera can only film exclusively with two different options: 1. A well lit set up being a little bit darker on camera to get decent exposure without artifacts or hotspots (Standard) or 2. Dimly lit set ups getting surprisingly even exposure and color, but at the cost of a lot of noise in darker areas of the scene and weird artifacts on any loud/bright colors like neon lights and other sources of flashy practical lighting (High).

With all that said, if you invest some time to really tinker with your lighting and find what settings work well for your set up, you’ll be very pleased to create your content with this camera in your arsenal of tools. It’s a giant leap forward compared to it’s predecessor, the ease of access is still unmatched, and for it’s price point, this camera still blows any other $200 or less computer camera out of the water. And honestly, I’d argue that that’s pretty much the point of this upgrade.
