Don’t waste your money. Worked fine for the first year, then went through 2 after market power supplies as the manufacturer one got extremely hot and didn’t work. 2nd power supply worked for 3 months, then the 3rd power supply fried my motherboard.

    Cost of Chromebook $550
    2 replacement power supplies $35
    Diagnostic at repair shop $100
    Tax $65

    Ripped off for $750 total.

So unless you want/like to set your hard earned money on fire. Do not buy this.

I am super PO’d, and want Amazon to make this right. Please get in touch Amazon.

Its worth paying the little bit more for the processing speed alone. Quick start up, no glitches (yet). The touch screen and security features are a huge plus also.
Do yourself the favor and get this chrome book over those cheap ones that get the job done, just at a much slower pace and lack the memory to allow for multiuse.

First off we thought it was defective as the camera did not work. Fun fact: there is a button on the side for privacy mode that turns camera off. 4 hours later and children crying, we figured it out. Past the sneaky switch, it has been good so far. The build quality seems nice and sturdy. So far so good

This was a gift for a 56 year old man. He works in IT and is impressed beyond belief how simple it was to be up and running within minutes.

1st, I would write this review anyway, but Amazon did offer a few bucks gift card, for an early review. Just so you know. We have been using this Chromebook for about a month.

That being said, I am a long time Windows user, and tech consultant. I have recommended Chromebooks to clients on specs alone, for their particular needs. But this is my first time with extensive hands on experience of my own. My wife has been using a 10 year old laptop that I built, it was cutting edge at the time, and has held up well over the years, now running the latest ‘2004’ version of Windows 10 Pro. But more and more, lately, I have been hearing complaints, the speakers are too hard to hear, the microphone needed to be upgraded, the battery is weak, too heavy to lug to the car, etc. So time for an upgrade.

Her needs are like a lot of folks, she does her email, Facebook, web browsing, an occasion letter or spreadsheet, lately some ‘teledoc’ type visits, zoom sessions with grandkids, and plays some games. So I did my research, Liked the spec’s on this HP Chromebook, and ordered one. The Intel I3 cpu, 8gb ram, and 64gb storage is what got my attention. The unit is very light, easily handled, and the 14″ screen was close enough to the old laptop’s 15″ screen to not be an issue.

I was impressed with the quality of the unit, right from the start. The screen was bright, and had a fine image. The speakers ( B&O in case you don’t know, the Danish equivalent of BOSE) had a high quality sound to them, the back-lit keyboard had a good feel, the touchpad worked, but my wife immediately liked the touchscreen.

It took me a while to get things working the way I wanted, only because I tried to do things the engrained Windows way, but soon remembered it was not windows, and adapted my methods. We copied all of her old data to a micro SD card, and placed into the Chromebook. She found that all of her pictures, word docs and excel spreadsheets were accessible, and I downloaded a free app so she could listen to her windows formatted music.

It connected to her phone hotspot for internet easily, and I was able to connect it to my router, and printer with little effort. It all seems to work as it is supposed to.

The battery seems to last all day for her, we plugged in a little 4 port USB hub for her external keyboard, mouse, and fit-bit dongle (not sure we need it with the blue-tooth), and for now my wife is very happy with her new Chromebook. And one of the granddaughters has the old laptop now, to do her ‘zoom’ home schooling that will continue this fall.

Still a learning curve, but this long time windows user is impressed.
