My wife loves me for purchasing this attachment for her KitchenAid blender. We had the standard beater that came with the blender. After about a year or so, the paint started chipping away and we had to get rid of.
I purchased this as a replacement. In my opinion this is better than the attachments that come with the blender. It seems to be very well made. No issues with chipping so far. On top of that its an improvement to the standard beater. The rubber edge on one side makes sure that everything in the bowl is mixed together. The original had a gap and small ingredients would sometimes stick to the side of the bowl and not get mixed. This edge touches the bowl and pulls everything that is stuck to i.

Great addition to my mixer. For softer/thinner batters it does a better/quicker job mixing.

I had been meaning to get this beater for my mixer for some time. It works great at scraping the sides of the bowl like it’s meant to, but I still had to use a spatula to scrape the sides of the bowl above the area cleared by the beater and also at the very bottom of the bowl, as well as butter/shortening that sticks to the non-scraper side of the beater. Also this beater tends to cause flour and liquids to splatter onto the counter and the bottom of the mixer head. I tried to compensate by running the mixer on low speed, then increasing the speed when the ingredients were slightly incorporated, and also by pulsing the beater on and off a few times before leaving it on and I still had splatter issues. I had also been meaning to get the pouring shield for my mixer, and this beater sped up my purchase of that accessory.

Note that I have a 4.5 quart bowl; larger bowls might not have these issues. Also, so far I’ve only used it to make recipes that I never made with the standard flat beater, so I might not have a fair basis of comparison. If I get better results with a more familiar recipe I may consider giving it an extra star.

Edit 12/4/2015: I have now used this beater for a couple of familiar recipes and had much better results. I have a feeling I got the results described above because I was using it for recipes that took up a lot of the bowl volume, and would have gotten the same results with the plain flat beater. I’ve given it an extra star. Note that you may have to adjust the mixer head height per the manufacturer’s instructions in order to get optimal results.

You must have this for your mixer! The beater with rubber scrapper eliminates the need to stop and start the mixer to scrap down the sides of the bowl. A great addition for a great appliance. And the perfect stocking stuffer for my niece!

I was a little nervous about buying this … because I wasn’t sure it would “fit” to scrape evenly. I was worried for nothing! This is a wonderful tool for my Kitchen Aid Mixer and I highly recommend. It does a really good job keeping the side of the bowl clean and ingredients well mixed. Worth the money!

Why isn’t this head included with the original product?

I love that I don’t have to stick a spatula down in the mixing bowl anymore!

This gets everything up and off the sides perfectly. It seems like it gets dry ingredients up off the very bottom better, too.

The only downside that I can note is that when youre done mixing and you lift the tilt head up slowly with the mixer spinning so that whatever you’re mixing spins off the beater … know what I mean?… when you do that with this beater it splatters out of the mixing bowl more. I used to be able to do it perfectly fine whether I was using the whisk or the original beater and didn’t have any splatters, but with this Edge Scraper version you have to be more careful because the stuff flings out and splatters much more often and more easily.

So, it means you have to do more scraping of the beater to get all your mixture off of it, whereas with old beater you could lift the head a little, control the speed, and have mixture spin off into your bowl.

Youre not having to scrape the mixing bowl anymore to get everything incorporated and mixed, but you do have to scrape this beater now. Fair trade off, I think. I’d rather scrape the beater after mixing than have to keep scraping with a spatula or scraper while mixing.

Update after prolonged use: The edges of the Flex Edge are getting pretty beat up. The edge sort of curls up a little bit and there are little cracks in. In some spots, it looks like tiny chunks are missing from the very edge. It doesn’t effect the performance, but I didn’t expect it to end up this way. I imagine i’ll need to replace it before too long. It doesn’t seem to be an accessory that has the same life span as the mixer.

Works exactly as you’d hope, significantly better than the beater that comes with the mixer.

This is a must have for any kitchenaid mixer. The one that comes with it doesn’t scrap batter off the side of the mixing bowl. This is great that it scraps better back into to bowl for mixing
