I’ve tried foil for re-packing my Vertuoline capsules, but it’s always a pain to get all of the original foil out, so I didn’t really do it too much.

Recently I got these silicone covers that aren’t quite as picky in terms of seating in the capsule, They work pretty well, although you have to be careful when filling the capsule… grounds on the rim may make the capsule get off-balance and stop the machine. I also found the machine (Vertuo Next) got louder about halfway into the cycle, but being careful and brushing the rim before seating these covers should help with that.

They’re also great for cases where you for some reason pop an unused capsule. I had a solid white light today and “wasted” two capsules, but used these to reuse them.

They have 2-packs, 4-packs, and 6-packs of these – higher packs are better deals (6 for the price of 4) but I’d suggest trying them before stocking up, unless you’re 100% certain you’ll replace the original capsules with these, and even then, get a feel for them before filling your pantry 🙂

I love the refillable pods for my Nespresso machine as it makes it more economical to use on the daily. When I found these silicone caps I thought they would be the perfect alternative to the adhesive foil seals that came with my capsules. Well they aren’t perfect but they do work really well. These covers are really easy to use and put on the capsules. I haven’t had any issues with them in my Nespresso machine and it brews fine. They are also very easy to remove after use and a simple rinse off makes it ready for another use. Overall it works as it should and is quite good.

Now here are the drawbacks: the way the cover fits is by being inset into the pod (think: corking a bottle vs. a screw on cap that fits on the outside). This fine and all but you have to remember to not fill the capsule as full or else it won’t fit, or you’ll get a mound in the middle which could mess up the brew. The other issue is that since it’s a reusable cap it has to have holes in it so the water can go through, obviously. This is why I say it’s great for immediate use: if you fill up your pod you can put this cap on and immediately brew a cup. But if you want to set up several pods for the week, like I do, then this is not ideal to have a cap with holes in it, as it will either make a mess if the pod tips over and the coffee ground fall out, or your coffee can get stale being exposed to the air.

So as long as you know their limitations these could be great accessories for your Nespresso setup.

I’ve been using this for 5-6 cups now and have been using the 7.77 oz cups. Using the included scoop, a little above the 20g line is the most you can fit before you make a mess in your machine. The resulting cup is pretty good. You must dial in the grind size to get a full extraction. I use the 8 setting on my Barraza Encore Burr Grinder. 9-10 will get you a lighter extraction, but 6-7 will cause the machine to stop due to clogging. When you overpack, when the pod spins, the silicone top will bend and spray grinds all over the machine. Don’t overpack, always lean towards underpacking. Overall, something to do on the weekend, but with all the quirks, i can’t reliably do it on a weekday on the way out the door.

Finally found a usable option for when I am either out of nespresso pods, or they are backordered and have delayed shipping (which has happened a lot this past year). Or sometimes I need a break from buying them, or want to use my own coffee beans, so it would be nice to still have the convenience of only making 1 or 2 cups of coffee for myself. Very easy to fill an old cleaned out pod with a scoop of ground coffee, then place one of these silicone lids on top and brew. That’s it! I’d just make sure you don’t over or under fill. Too full and they won’t work right, not full enough and it feels like the seal isn’t secure enough. Easy to figure it out after a few tries! I like that this set came with a perfectly sized scoop too.

I was a bit skeptical at first when I saw these but much to my surprise I am sipping a nice cup of coffee as I write this review. Use is very straight forward. Clean out coffee from a used aluminum pod and remove the foil cover. Add your ground coffee of choice but take care not to over fill and leave room for the silicon cover which seats within the pod. The rim will sit perfectly around the capsule without the need for any sealant or pressure fitting. Use this pod as usual and enjoy! It is a bit labor intensive but I am sure with practice it will become easier and sure beats paying the exorbitant price for those pods. Good product.

I think it works well with the original pods. Fits good and doesn’t leak.

These work good and are reusable. Easy to use but a little pricey

These are a great way to cut down on recycling and to use your favorite coffee in a vertuo machine. They work as advertised. Two downsides (not specific to this product, but into these caps in general):

    – it is pretty fiddly to try and remove the foil cap on the original pods – need a sharp knife but don’t go through the barcode underneath! Once you have these you can obviously reuse again and again

    – need to get your coffee into the pod without making any mess and making sure you tamp down just enough but not too much. Part of the attraction of Nespresso is that it is quick and you can get away from grinding, tamping, tapping out grounds, etc
