Returned a big brand named stand alone air popper because it threw kernels all over the kitchen despite tilting it back, etc.

This product works the way that I hoped the $50 popper would! Only a few unpopped kernels at the bottom, easy to clean (dishwasher safe), and the popcorn is fantastic.

Taking the advice of another reviewer, I set my microwave at 5 min, and just opened the door when the popping stopped for about 5 seconds. Perfect every time!

If you love popcorn, you will love this!

Have been using this for a few months now, definitely a non-expensive way to make your popcorn at home in a few minutes. Have to say though, the instructions/suggestions for cooking don’t match my experience.

I have always popped my corn in a stove pot and would warm the kernels up in the oil first so that they could pop fairly evenly. When using this microwave bowl I noticed that the same method applies really. I have a 1200w oven (sharp inverter) and am used to most cooking instructions being for 1000W versions.

To prevent burning I have to cook the kernals for 1 minute on 50% power (the warm-up). Then I immediately cook another 60-70 seconds at full power. Then I empty out all the popped corn (perhaps two thirds) and cook at full power another 50 seconds for the remainder with a few kernals left.

Initially following the included instructions or people’s comments here only gave me burnt popcorn.

    Just my thoughts.

    Following the instructions

She said it pops nearly all the popcorn kernels, if she monitors and times it properly, doesn’t burn the popcorn (don’t add ANYTHING but popcorn kernels before putting it in the microwave), and it comes out tasting great.

ALSO: if you routinely have paper plates in the microwave to catch spills, REMOVE them before using this; they WILL scorch, if not burn.

UPDATE: I finally used it myself, and it works so well that I actually wish I liked plain popcorn. This popper makes it so easy to make great popcorn. It stands up well once unfolded (expanded?) and seems well manufactured. I love that it’s made of silicone so it can be simply rinsed and left out to dry, as well as collapsed and squished a bit to make it fit in small areas.

The handles do get pretty warm while the corn is popping, but not so hot that I needed to protect my fingers before I pull it out of the microwave.

I must say I was skeptical about a simple container to stick in the microwave to make popcorn. Especially after having one of those fancy ones with a motorized stirring mechanism and all. But it does work, and I actually see far fewer un-popped kernels than I did with the old machine. Go figure.

A couple of things to consider: If you follow the directions apparently written by their lawyers which say not to use oil or butter, you get popcorn that tastes like eating paper. Maybe microwaving oil adds a little risk (splattering or eventually damaging the material), but I’ve been adding a little peanut oil or butter with no problems and some significant improvement in flavor. Also, because it is kind of flimsy, it is a little harder to wash. Takes a little practice to get good at washing a thing that hangs like a big limp noodle in your hand. But minor points and makes pretty good popcorn.

I liked this so much I bought another one! This is so easy to use and store and clean. It makes no mess and it can all be done in one bowl! The silicone texture is nice too, easier to grip and the handles on the side are nice.

Great purchase! This popper is so easy to use and so easy to clean and store… we love it. The popped corn comes out so light and delicious, then my kids can each fill a bowl and put on the butter, salt, etc that they want. Everyone gets exactly what they want, quick and easy and much healthier and tastier than the microwave bags of popcorn.

    Almost no unpopped kernels.
Like air popper, no oil needed.
    Great price!

This item is great for a quick popcorn treat. Simply through some kernels up to pre-established lines for either a snack size or bigger volume. No oil needed, takes about 3 minutes and is cheaper in the long run than popping the bags. Plus , you can control the amount of salt and butter if you choose to add,

Microwaving popcorn has always been a dicey proposition. With paper bags, the timing’s never quite right. Too low and not enough kernels pop. Too long and they get burnt. Heated air poppers work but it needs an especially large bowl to keep kernels from flying around. I have to say I was skeptical about this product, but after trying it out, it performs exceptionally well. There’s virtually no guessing involved. Three minutes seems to be the magic number. Nearly every kernel pops big and fluffy, and with a warm bowl (be a little careful taking it out), butter melts well and then toss in whatever seasonings you like. Cleans very well by hand, and there’s no noticeable damage after repeated uses. Highly recommended.
