Between work and various personal writing/design projects, I used to go through a lot (and I mean A LOT) of paper notepads. I’ve been looking for an electronic solution that would allow me to keep my handwritten notes all in one place so I don’t have to go rifling through 80 different pads (not to mention the waste, cost, and clutter of all that paper), but nothing really stuck out – products like Remarkable require a subscription, others don’t have the tactile writing experience I wanted. The Kindle Scribe absolutely fits the bill. And it has only gotten more useful now that they pushed an update including different pen tips and allowing sub-folders.

Things I use it for/Pros are:
    – Keeping my handwritten notes organized and in one place.
    – Taking notes on PDFs (game reference sheets, academic articles, etc.).
    – Checklists and general organization.
    – Basic line drawings, sketches, and diagrams.
    – Reading PDFs and and my Kindle library.
    – Emailing myself notes/sketches as PDFs.

Things it is NOT good for/Cons:
    – You can do some basic drawing on this, but it is NOT an artist’s drawing tablet.
    – Currently, you can only add note tags to Kindle books rather than marking over the page with handwritten notes. May be more of an issue for some than others.
    – It has a very basic web browser, but it is really not meant for surfing.
    – It is a little bit heavy compared to other Kindles – which makes sense given that it is larger – but this does make it holding up while reading in bed, for example, a bit awkward.

    Suggestions for future updates:
    – Additional standard note templates (hex graph paper, please!), and the ability to upload new, custom templates.
    – Ability to switch between templates within a single notebook.

Overall: A bit pricey, but so far not an ounce of regret regarding this purchase. May not be for everyone, so make sure it fits your needs before purchase (i.e. it is NOT a general-use tablet), but if your requirements are anything like mine, I highly recommend.

I bought the Scribe essentials pack in November, with the blue denim Folio. The price for the folio by itself seems steep, but it’s very reasonable if you wait for Amazon Day/Black Friday/Boxing Day pricing along with the bundle discount.

The more I used it, the more I realized what a good overall design it is:
    – Multiple kickstand angles make it useful in a variety of situations. It’s very stable when standing up.
    – Surprisingly, the fabric didn’t seem to soak up fluids, or get stained from handling.
    – Protruding edges and strong magnetic attachment make it surprisingly protective for an open-sided case, and help to keep the pen in place if you leave it magnetically attached to the Scribe.
    – Still, I found that the pen could get bumped off too easily when picking the tablet up, or walking around with it. That’s when the pen loop is invaluable. It has just the right tension to hold the pen, yet it’s easy to retrieve when you’re ready to write.
    – The fabric is grippy, and makes it easier to hang on to the device when reading.
    – I wasn’t sure about a top-hinged cover at first, but it turned out to be very accommodating when seated, writing on a table, lying on my back or on my side while reading in bed, etc.
    – BIG feature for left-handed users: you can flip your Scribe 180 degrees in the case, so the “grip side” of the Scribe is on the right, and the cover still works perfectly- not just as a cover, but as a kickstand. Access to the power button is just as good for right-hand or left-hand use. This is a major plus- seem my comment below about trying an Onyx Boox tablet with a side-hinged folio cover!

My only complaint about the fabric folio, was the way it was finished- the edges felt almost uncomfortably sharp, and as other people have reported, regular handling over a couple of weeks was enough to cause the edges to start fraying. I actually had to trim little threads off the cover with my nail scissors.

My reason for posting this review, is that I returned my Scribe before Christmas in order to try out a competing tablet from Boox. That experience further reinforced what a good little folio this is. The placement of the magnets on the Note Air3 C folio wasn’t symmetrical- it was cumbersome, but stood firm in right-handed use. But when I flipped the tablet, the magnets were now in the wrong place- it wouldn’t stand up at all!

I ended up returning the NA3C, and ordering another Scribe. Imagine how pleased I was when I unboxed the Folio (I got the blue denim again), and discovered that it has neatly rolled and heat-sealed edges! Picture attached…

The new edge treatment makes it feel more comfortable in the hand, and pulled threads shouldn’t be a problem this time around.

This is the fifth case or sleeve I’ve tried for the Scribe. This is the one I’ll keep for sure.

    Pros:
    (1) The pen holds steady in the loop, not floppy like the cheaper knock-offs. OR you can keep the pen magnetically on the side because the case covers the pen just enough to keep it from getting bumped too easily.
    (2) The Scribe pops in easily because of the magnets. And yes, it hods SECURELY. Not sure what these people who complain about that are talking about. Maybe don’t go jogging while holding it. It’s quite secure for normal use.
    (3) The options for using the stands are great. Low for note taking, high for reading. Simple and secure. The magnets help here, too. Follow the instructions and using like you’re supposed to and all will be right with the world.
    (4) Open flap hold cover in place. Yep… magnets again. Not only when closed, but also when open. Nice and secure when reading or writing. Not flopping around like the cheap one.
    (5) Super light. Adds very little weight to the Scribe.
    (6) Quality look and feel. It’s an expensive device, and this cover reflects that.

    Cons:
    (1) Edges are a bit sharp. But maybe it’s because I’m a delicate flower with soft hands.
    (2) Not much drop protection. But again, that’s not what it’s made for. If you plan to drop it, the case is super slim, so you could put it in a sleeve when traveling.

I purchased this cover because it came with a bundle. That being said, it would’ve been my go-to as I was having trouble finding any other magnetic cover. Most were clip on devices and I wanted to be able to take the case off when reading in bed due to weight. I enjoy the cover as it let’s me prob the device at an angle for writing or for reading. My only gripe with the angle for writing is it is a bit severe of an angle for me. The vertical orientation for reading is great. The stylus holder has not loosened yet so that’s good. I do find the cover opens sometimes in my bag but that’s mostly because I put the tablet stylus holder up so I don’t crush the stylus. The stylus weight then opens the cover in my bag. Overall a good cover. Love the fabric and eas of removal.

The cover has started to fray on some of the seems already and it’s only a couple months old :/

I swithered endlessly on whether to buy this case or a cheap alterative. I am extremely glad I purchased it.

To echo many of the other reviews, this case is excellent, and adds so much useability and functionality to the Kindle Scribe. It’s slim, and feels more like part of the device itself than a case. Add to that the magnetic attachment, and the ability to easily remove the case for long note taking sessions (as I do) and you really start to see why this costs what it does. For context, I paid a little under £60 for this case at the time of purchase.

If you’re getting a Scribe, just get this case. It’s an investment, and it greatly increases your joy and ease in using the device.

Summary: this sleek nice cover + a sleek kindle Scribe is a pleasure to hand hold.

Without a cover, Kindle Scribe could easily slip out of my hands. I consider this cover essential. This cover is made of a high quality, though a bit expensive; it works well in turning the device on or off automatically as the flap is lifted. This cover shields from the cold touch of the metal surface, an important reason for me to have it.

I don’t know how strong the magnets are, but device seems to stay inside the cover, and hopefully won’t pop out. Thankfully it doesn have prongs like my Kindle Dx cover which could rip open the device under certain conditions!

Fits the Scribe perfectly and provides an stylus holder. To be honest, I don’t use the holder on the bottom that much. I usually let my stylus rest against the side of the Scribe magnetically. But the case extends out a bit on the sides, which stabilizes the pen and keeps it more secure, so I like that a lot. The Scribe is larger that the e-reader, and therefore heavier; the case improves my grip on the Scribe. I’m a dropper, so a case is important for my devices, and nothing works as well for me as the one Amazon makes for especially for it’s devices. Sleek.

I was concerned the edges would undo after some time since I saw many reviews complaining about it but they have improved it!
