How I tested this speaker. I have a JBL PartyBox 310 and JBL Boombox 3. I placed all three in a line knowing that the Boombox 3 would not put out the same bass as the other two. I began with the Boombox which was sitting on a table about 30” high. I played several bass heavy but well mixed songs. I chose a song from the 70’s, 80’s, 90’s, etc. the audio was at 1/3 for each PartyBox and 50 – 55% for the Boombox so that each speaker sounded close to the same level.

Boombox 3 – Has the best overall mid/highs. It’s a speaker with a lot of clarity. I mark this up to it having mid range speakers where the Partybox 310/320 only have tweeters/bass speakers. The bass sounds pretty nice but you won’t mistake it for larger bass speakers.

JBL Partybox 310 – I’ve owned this for a while, yet probably have less than 10 hours of play time on it. The low play time is attributed to neighbors who complain about talking too loud (true story) and this speaker can definitely talk loud.

The bass is very nice on the 310, it feels very full and decently low. I feel like the mids and highs kind of step on each other because of the size of the tweeter. The tweeter is trying to be a tweeter and mid range speaker., it doesn’t excel at either but you can work some of this out with an EQ. This speaker begs to be turned to 50% minimum and then it begins to come to life. I love this speaker and have found that you can do a lot with it at lower volumes with a good eq. Since I’m getting older I don’t crank them like I used too.

JBL Partybox Stage 320 – This is the best sounding speaker overall. The Boombox 3 sounds a bit more full in the mids/highs but the 320 does a good job at separating the mids/highs. Instrument’s come alive in the 320 via separation. I feel the 310 struggles in this department. The bass on the 320 does not feel like it has the depth that the 310 has at 1/3 volume BUT when pushed to 50% that changes. At 50% volume this speaker sounds amazing (we’re not MartinLogin) for what you are paying for. There is great separation between the bass/mids/highs and everything just comes alive. BTW there is now a 5 band EQ in the JBL Partbox app. So what does it sound like past 50%? You will have to buy it and find out.
