Unfortunately our LG gram and was plagued with the same fan noise due to it rubbing against the bottom of the case. There is no separator to keep this from happening. Stupid to send back for such a little thing but fan noise is not so little in a library. Otherwise expect it to be a good laptop for college.

The battery provides the laptop only for 8-10 hours of operation in standard mode (without using audio and video) at 90% screen brightness. Within 2-3 minutes after turning on the laptop, the battery not only heats up, but becomes hot. This means that a huge amount of energy is spent on heating the surrounding space.

Pros:
– Battery life is fantastic and its so light, it makes it a joy to use. The Gram is only 0.8lbs lighter than a XPS 13 or Yoga 14″ but it makes both of them feel like bricks after comparing them in hand.
– It runs Linux Mint great but make sure you update the linux kernel to the latest 5.8 version.
– The 16:10 aspect ratio makes the screen feel big even on the 14″ model. The difference is noticeable between this and a 13.3″ XPS even though it’s only a fraction of an inch bigger.
– The FHD+ resolution is great for the 14″ screen and prevents you from having to use Windows scaling to be able to read text. Some applications don’t scale well (or at all) so that was always an annoyance on my XPS 13 that had a completely unnecessary high res screen that ate up battery life. Dell should take notes here.
– The design is modern with small bezels and a nice keyboard. I tried a Yoga with the same specs as the Gram but returned it because it felt very “last gen” with bigger bezels, flimsy keyboard, and heavier weight. This feels much more premium but is more expensive.
Cons:
– The display backlight uniformity is bad with noticeable backlight bleed in the bottom corners of the screen. It’s only really noticeable on the boot screen and when watching dark videos. If I press in the corner of the bezel, the light bleed decreases so I’m assuming this is just a tradeoff of the flexible frame needed for weight savings.
– There was a noticeable fan noise after using it for a few hours. It sounded like something was hitting the fan on the inside and it got louder if I rested my hands on the keyboard. I popped the laptop open and there is a thin black sheet on the underside of the frame that was loose and hitting the CPU fan. I peeled it off and re-applied it tightly and that resolved it. You definitely should not have to do that on a $1500 laptop.
Overall:
I’m very happy with this laptop, it fixes all the complaints I had with my previous one and feels like a big upgrade. You can get the same specs in much cheaper laptops but the amazing battery life, light weight, and premium feel makes the experience of using the Gram worth the cost in my opinion.

If you do some research about what laptop to buy in this price range and size, the internet will by and large tell you to go with a Dell XPS 13. My wife has one of those. This LG Gram is better.
You can look at benchmarks all day long, but if you’re like me, you aren’t using your laptop to find prime numbers. You’re using it to surf the internet, work on a few spreadsheets or word docs, maybe play solitaire. It doesn’t matter that the Dell XPS performs slightly better for these use cases. You’re not going to be able to tell a difference.
The LG Gram has a lot going for it. Great screen, good keyboard, great design aesthetic. Is it a little less “solid” than aluminum laptops? Yes, it is. But remember, this thing isn’t made of plastic. It’s made of Magnesium Alloy which has an insanely high strength/weight ratio. This thing is sturdy, even if it doesn’t feel like it, and the end result of that design decision is why this laptop trumps every other I’ve ever used–
This thing is SOOO light. Every time I pick it up, I’m amazed all over again. I have a desktop if I want to do heavy hitter things. When I’m using a laptop, the single most important thing for me is that I can easily carry it places. No laptop is easier to carry than this, especially with this much performance and amazing battery life.
Don’t sleep on LG. They’ve crept up on the competitors and are ready for prime time. I can’t recommend the LG Gram enough.

I met my first LG gram several years ago. The light weight was astonishing, almost magical. But that machine was disappointing in many areas. With the 2021 models LG really got it right. I still experience surprise every time I lift it: so light. It usually runs in complete silence: no fan noise because the fan seldom needs to run. Screen is just bright enough; could have a little more contrast. CPU is plenty fast enough for everything I use it for, though I understand it would be faster if LG had used a heavier design with a bigger cooling system. Some online reviews I saw showed a keyboard deck that had a lot of flex: press down on it and it bends. Not mine; maybe LG fixed that.
Keyboard feels really good, touchpad works perfectly. Love all the ports: full HDMI, two USB-C, two USB-A,
Some online reviews found the screen colors to be inaccurate and over saturated. I agree. I recommend you use the pre-installed utility, Intel Graphics Command Center, to fix these. I found it to be way more effective than the LG utility for adjusting screen color. You can find it just by hitting the Windows (start) button and typing “intel”.

This 2.2 pound LG Gram 14-inch laptop is fantastic. You can carry it without being aware of its weight. Everything about it is terrific. I’m very happy I bought it.

I like that Linux (Ubuntu 21.04) runs immediately and flawlessly on my LG Gram 14Z90P (everything works perfectly!).
It’s great to have a light computer in my bag.
On the negative side:
– it has 2 USB-C left side, and 2 USB-A ports right side. I wish they had put one of each on each side (eg the power outlet is on my right side, and a USB-A device is left side 🙁
– the display is nice (great colors), but the monitor is glossy… A mirror! I’ll try to stick some matte cover
Besides… happy!

Bought this for an employee that travels frequently. Super lightweight. Great battery life. Solid specs. I’d buy it again.
