Everything about this toner cartridge seems okay, from the packaging to the new HP part number SU462A (HP bought Samsung’s printer division sometime in the last year or two). The printer is now discontinued, and consumable supplies were so scarce in the USA that I had to buy the replacement cartridge from the Samsung’s Amazon UK store. That said, though, everything was functioning fine until that new cartridge was swapped in. The error is “Yellow toner cartridge is not compatible. Check user’s guide.”
There is a similar cartridge on Amazon and elsewhere, also Samsung part #CLT-Y406S but HP part number SU466A. According to the HP support team, that item is specific to Canada and SU462A is the one that should apply to the US market, so there is no obvious reason why this cartridge should not work in this printer. As sometimes happens, it was not installed until well after the return window closed, so now the question is whether to try again from another vendor or just cut our losses, sell the printer and all remaining supplies and start over.
