I just started my Bachelor’s for Computer Technology, so I bought this laptop to help get assignments done when I’m unable to access my self-built desktop PC (Gigabyte B450 Aorus, AMD Ryzen 5 2600X, Sapphire Radeon RX 580 GPU. Nothing fancy, but it’s a good starter build.)
This computer functions well; I do a factory reset on every new computer I get to ensure that as much “bloatware” is cleared as possible. It runs smoothly and, component-wise, you get a good value.
This is a two-star review for a reason, however, because the computer has one glaring flaw that has caused me numerous headaches: the cooling intake on the bottom is very easily blocked, and, unless I pay very careful attention to have the device resting very squarely on a hard service with nothing close to it, I will return to it an hour or so later to find that, rather than going into hibernate (to avoid overheating, I having very conservative hibernate settings,) the fan is working overdrive to prevent overheating. I’ve never had this issue before, because my past laptops (with comparable processor power usage) have not had so much cool air intake through the bottom, or the bottoms had a higher rise. This issue will, inevitably, cause avoidable wear on my computer and require me to replace it sooner.
I’ve got a few other pet peeves: There is no indicator for whether or not you’ve turned caps/num/scroll lock on, the power cord plugs in in the middle of the right side, which is weird, and the default setting of the computer was to have the F1-F12 keys function primarily as media keys, secondarily as Function keys. I don’t know why they did that, but I had to go into the BIOS and change it.
My tip: fork over the extra ~$150 and buy from a brand with a better reputation for high-quality hardware.

So far, I like everything about this laptop, with one exception.
The quality of the screen, keyboard, and components is great.
I hope it stays that way.
But, the setup procedure for first time use was difficult.
The touch pad did not work properly. So I had to call Acer support line twice.
Eventually they came up with a fix for a known problem.
Since then, everything has worked.

The trackpad has scrapes in it when I got it. Returned it, it’s been two weeks and I’m being told it will take another 2 weeks for my refund to process. The body is also thin plastic and not metal like some other aspire 7s, including the trackpad. Get another gaming laptop, the ROG zephyrus g14 is on sale at best buy right now for almost the same price with a better GPU & CPU and an all aluminum chassis.

I’m using this for MSFS 2020. It’s been working great around 20 fps on medium quality. Battery runs out fast on this sim and the machine gets hot fast soo I use a cooling tray and the internal fan doesn’t kick on at all. I used recommended setting on sim forums to set it up. I’ve used adobe creative suite no problem. I have updated to 32 gb of ram and performance improved dramatically.

I would give it 5 stars but but the battery life isn’t as good as other laptops I’ve had. Other than that this laptop is very good and should be able to do most of anything that is thrown at it.

I had purchased a more expensive laptop from a very well known company and it arrived defective. On the recommendation of others, as well as based on reviews, I purchased this awesome laptop. It is, without a doubt, the best (and least expensive) of the last three laptops I’ve owned!

Beautiful, love this laptop! Amazing tech for the price. I mainly use this laptop for school and for productivity, boots up websites quickly and able to run multiple tabs with ease. For gaming it’s able to run the games I play in stable low-medium quality, the fan goes off a bit loud but for me personally it’s not a big deal, nor is it distracting. For 8 gb of ram only 6 is available but I’m planning on upgrading and adding another 8 gb sometime in the future. For media and entertainment, I use it to watch movies on streaming sites and the quality is very good, no backlight bleed at all during dark screens but results might vary for others. For the price (I paid $800 after tax) it’s a great laptop for students and casual gamers, highly recommend 👍
