user –
After 1 year of using it with Linux OS I can find 2 main downsides:
1) Heating. When watching Youtube, it almost immediately turns on the fan.
2) Screen. After 1 year I got burnt out areas on the screen. Not very noticeable, but once you see it.

The design of the laptop is awesome. Performance claims are impressive. However, actual performance is very disappointing.
Only 2-3 weeks after starting to use the laptop the charging suddenly stopped working. Contacted Asus support, they were of no help. Amazon, however, was smooth in support and offered prompt replacement (and have even gone beyond the ordinary routine and compensated me the extra shipping costs given the fact that I was out of the US at that time – impressive!).
2-3 months after getting my replacement (new) unit, the camera suddenly stopped working. Asus support was of no help – tricks they suggested did nothing (while they were claiming those would solve the issue), and then suggesting to factory reset the unit which I decided not to follow, so I just dropped the case and chosen to bear with non-performing camera. After a while the camera started working again by the way, proving that factory reset was not needed!
Battery performance is much worse than claimed, at best (with very basic use, no videos/graphics) would take you 2.5-3 hours on battery saver mode!
Speed/performance has been awful from the very beginning. Even basic tasks like web browsing is soooo slow that it gets beyond frustration. This is an expensive and supposedly powerful machine, yet such a disappointing performance. Decided to contact Asus support again (via online chat), they again suggested a few tricks and seeing none of them help recommended factory reset, which is not a preferred solution for me (especially since I am not guaranteed it will solve the issue). And when I asked them to try to connect to my computer to see what the issue is, they insisted that I need to call them for that, and the online support chat won’t get me there!
Very disappointed with the performance and, perhaps even more so, with Asus customer service. Will most likely switch to another brand – as much as I love the design of this laptop.

What I loved:
– the display! The OLED screen is beautiful!
What I liked:
– the on demand number keypad. Very clever.
– the overall design, style, look and feel of the materials. Impressive.
– the backlit keyboard with characters illuminated in color to match the rose copper trim of the laptop.
– The speakers sounded much better than I expected.
What disappointed me:
– no card reader
– Difficult to open lid with one hand. A bit of a lip would have been nice to grab on too.
– an additional 2 Thunderbolt on the other side would have been nice. (Or 1 Thunderbolt and a card reader).
– With only 1 USB port, why not make it USB 3.2(Gen 2) x 2 and make it more futureproof.
– the whole laptop is a fingerprint magnet! I’m sure you can find a nice pretty finished metal that would look just as nice yet be less prone to fingerprints. Same for the glass.
What infuriated me:
-I’m more of a desktop guy but I have had about six laptop computers in my lifetime. In fact, the last 2 were Asus and the most recent one I bought for my daughter was also ASUS. I like ASUS products and I’ve always had good luck with them.
What’s with the track pad???? 1 finger to mouse around, then tap or double tap. 2 fingers to scroll and in some programs that will also change volume up and down or skip backward or forward in a movie. To drag and drop something, you need 2 hands. Tap, tap hold, drag then lift your fingers straight up. If you move just a bit, you’ll drop in the wrong place. There other things that happen if you use 3 or 4 fingers but I’m still trying to work out the basics. I might end up liking it but it has one heck of a learning curve! I might be better off buying a cordless mouse.
Before you buy, try one in a store so you’ll know what I mean.

I was very disappointed in this purchase, mostly due to how big of a gap in the battery performance I’m getting versus what was advertised. Even on low brightness with a light load, 5 hours seems to be the best I can get out of this thing whereas it says up to 15 hours on the page.
While that’s a major negative as it was my main reason for getting this laptop, it still runs pretty well and the screen is fantastic. I just wish they were more honest in the advertising.
