The Panasonic landline corded/cordless phone package consists of one corded connected handset and one cordless handset. The corded handset is a home office phone with numerous features. Some of the numerous features include a nice clear and easily readable caller ID screen, an easy-to-use call block option, an advanced call block feature, call answering machine, call recording, contact phone book, speakerphone, call hold, redial, adjustable ringer volume, call voice “equalizer” and several others.

The standout feature of this home/home office landline, is the ability to block spam and telemarketer calls. As a call comes in the number is clearly displayed on the phone screen. If you don’t recognize the incoming call, you can use the call block button on the phone, confirm your desire to block the call and then number is stored in the phone’s call block list. Future calls from that number are now blocked. The phone paperwork describes the ability to input a range of numbers to block – I did not try to use this feature. The phone blocks calls that do not have any caller identification.

There is also an automated call block feature. When you turn this option on, unknown calls (calls from numbers not in your phone book and which the phone doesn’t recognize) are answered with a greeting that prompts the caller to enter an access code. Spam and robo calls will never hear the prompt or enter the access code. For those unknown callers that do enter the access code as prompted, that number is then memorized in the call unblocked list and no further code is required for future calls.

There is another call blocking or call reject option. This is the “telemarketer ” call block. As a call is incoming you pick up the handset and you immediately press the “TELE BLK” as prompted. Your Panasonic phone then asks the caller to identify themselves. You can accept the call or press your phone’s larger CALL BLOCK key to block the call and enter the number into the phone’s call block list.

This is a wonderful, feature laden home phone with lots and lots of functions and options. Many of the features are also available on the one cordless handset included with the corded base phone. The cordless handset requires extensive use of the menu function to find and use the phone’s options. The accompanying operating instructions manual is very detailed and extremely useful to help access the many functions and options of the Panasonic KX-TGF 850. The manual is clear and well written. This phone has so many features you will need to look at the manual many times while using the phone. Many of these features I will probably not use, but they are there if I decided I need them.

This is a business phone. Excellent for a small business or home office. The sound is clear. There is a learning curve for working all the features.

The Panasonic KX-TGF852B phone system is probably everything most households will need to manage their landline. I am not going to try to describe all the features of this phone – and there are many. I think most of us settle on using the basic features of a phone system, so I will concentrate on my experiences with those.
The base station has large easy-to-read numbers and the feature buttons are well labeled so they are easy to read. The large 3.4” backlit LCD display is also easy to read. When the phone is not in use the time and date are displayed in lettering large enough to read easily. The two cordless handsets are larger than our previous Panansonic cordless phones. I appreciate having a handset big enough to get my hand around. The buttons on the cordless handsets are also large enough to read and they are backlit. The handsets have 1-5/8” backlit LCD displays that are, again, quite readable. Instead of using a proprietary battery, these use standard AAA NiMh rechargeables and that is a thoughtful feature for the manufacturer to provide. The base system and the charging bases for the cordless handsets can sit on a flat surface or they can be wall mounted. There is a design flaw in the catch that holds the handset on the base unit when wall mounted. It is barely tall enough to catch the handset. Just brushing my hand against the coiled handset cord causes the handset to fall. I will probably fabricate a larger catch to solve this problem. You will probably benefit from adding a longer coiled cord to the handset as the one provided is quite short. My only other criticism is that the display of the number you are dialing wraps the last digit of the phone number to another line making it confusing to read. Numbers for caller ID do not wrap and are easy to read. Things like this just make me wonder what designers are thinking. Anyway, these small negatives do not change the fact that this is an excellent phone system.
There are some quick setup instructions you will see on one tab of the box when you open it. That will give you sufficient instructions to get the phone system assembled and set up. I was able to set date and time, record my outgoing message and select some additional settings without referring to the instructions . . . and that speaks well of the phone’s design. To use the more complicated features, you will need to spend some time in the 76-page operating instruction manual.
Panasonic has provided a nice feature-rich phone system here at an attractive price point. I have come to expect excellent quality from Panasonic and, for the most part, these phones do not disappoint. I rate this as an all-around excellent corded/cordless phone system.

While it took a little while to set up this system, it works well. Our old uniden phone system was over 20 years old and technology has changed a lot!
