I’ve wanted to try one of these for quite some time (being the owner of several SFF computers), but the prices have been ridiculously high – particularly when compared to the AMD RX6400. But this one finally came in at a price only a little higher than the AMD offering, so I took a shot.

But first, this line in the product description:
“packaging content nvidia video card t400 4gb bracket low profile sff installed bracket full profile atx nvidia guides and manuals 3x mini display port adapters for displayport”

packaging content nvidia video card t400 4gb — Yep, there was one of those in the completely generic and unlabeled box.

bracket low profile sff installed bracket full profile atx– I’m not exactly sure what this means, is the low profile bracket installed, or the full profile? In this case, it was the full height bracket, and the low profile one required some bending before I could mount it, and wedge the card into the case (I was not impressed)

nvidia guides and manuals 3x mini display port adapters for displayport — Yeah, there was NONE of that in the box – fortunately I had purchased a mini display port to HDMI adapter when I ordered this, so I wasn’t screwed by the LACK OF PROMISED ADAPTERS. But I guess that’s common with these things.

Now the the nitty-gritty — no, it’s not faster than the RX6400, at least according to the benchmarks. In fact, many benchmarks don’t seem a whole lot better than a GT1030. Of course, this has 4GB of GDDR6, as opposed to 2GB of GDDR5, and it’s capable of running some of the benchmarks 3dMark said it couldn’t. Unreal Tournament GOTY edition was actually playable with this card – it hiccups something awful with the RX6400. The T400 also has NVENC and the other stuff, so you can actually use the Windows Game DVR with this card – the RX6400 can’t do that. Also, this thing remained mostly silent while the benchmarks were running – the RX6400 would start whining after a while.

So, it’s not a bad card, despite the benchmark runs – so it’s staying in the machine it’s currently in. The RX6400 will get put in a sister machine and – maybe I’ll do something with it later…

UPDATE: GPUz says this is a Lenovo card, and that it only has 2GB of memory – not the 4GB the listing says. Needless to say, I’m not so impressed with this card as I was before. Unigine also says it only has 2GB of memory – so I guess I got hosed over there. If it wasn’t cheaper than the normal, labeled 2GB card, I’d be a bit annoyed. OK, a nit more annoyed…
