  1. never enough books

purchased this laptop to replace our family computer that died. All of our kids use google chromebooks in school and we have many of them in our house already. We are using this for my 5th grader’s homework, general web browsing and for him to play games like Roblox. It was super easy to set up and it’s working great. Fits our needs well and for a great value.

My son kept using my laptop so I looked online and found the exact same model refurbished figured what the heck it’s great price and half the cost as new I got it 2 days later when I opened it the darn thing looked absolutely brand new like from a store charged it up set it up couldn’t believe how flawless it ran and looked so I ordered another 1 for my wife and same thing can’t believe these are refurbished I’m gonna order a third on my next check since the one I bought 2 years ago has battery issues but that’s cause I allways left it plugged in lol

    UPDATE: 6/2/20
This chrome book is actually worse than I gave it credit for when I posted my first review (below). I can state this with confidence now that there is a Lenova chromebook in my house (not a brand I hold in high regard) and I reach for it more often than this Acer.

This Acer is constantly 1-2 bars below the house’s wifi signal compared to any other device in the house, and often disconnects from wifi any time of day or any day of the week (meaning there is no pattern, such as M-F, 9-5). It is slow to load, slow to save, slow, slow, slow. Meanwhile the Lenova skips along quickly, and with the more comfortable 13″ screen (my bad-I should have NEVER purchased the larger chromebook), I can do more work and do it faster. It also won’t run Zoom. It can handle Google Meets, but if I have a Zoom call, I have to use my phone. I always take all the updates, so I know this is not the issue. I’ve been attempting to use Zoom unsuccessfully for 5 months.

I have never become accustomed to the poorly placed keyboard of this larger device, and since Covid and working from home, have experienced constant pain in my forearms, wrists, palms and fingers. I have been doing virtual physical therapy to help.

As far as my original review about the cover’s durability, I take it back. I am very careful with my things, and this chromebook has sustained several deep scratches on the cover/lid.

I have no recommendations for what to buy instead, only to say seriously consider your needs. This is not a work computer, and I wouldn’t want a student to use it either because it is not reliable. Even in using it for personal interests, I continued to rely on my outdated, 8 yr old Toshiba until it finally died beyond repair about a month ago. This is nothing more than a casual use, back-up device, NOT a primary device for any household or user. This Acer will be for sale on eBay in the coming days.

    Original Review:
I bought this after my 7 year old Toshiba Chromebook (Toshiba no longer makes Chromebooks) was on its last update. It operated like a dream all the years I had it.

Since the prices have come down quite a bit on chromebooks since my Toshiba purchase, I opted for a larger screen with this Acer. I have had it a couple of weeks and can not get adjusted to the placement of the keyboard, which of course is the same size as the 11″ Toshiba, but is place so high (close to the screen) that my wrist/arm reach is really uncomfortable. The touch pad is too large and I hit it with the edge of my hand and jump the cursor regularly. I’m also not a fan of the ‘search’ key where my caps-lock used to be.

From the start, it has been slow and not just compared to my old Toshiba but also the Chromebooks I use at work (although my workplace does have stronger wifi than I have at home). Regarding my home wifi, I haven’t added any additional devices-just this one as a replacement.

I’m really disappointed in this purchase and wish I saved the packaging because I would send it back and get something else.

As a positive, it is lightweight, and even in this large size, is only slightly heavier than my old 11″. I suspect the matte finish cover and bottom will hold up nicely to wear and tear.

My first ever Chromebook and I couldn’t be more pleased. Big screen w/vivid color. Boots up quickly and changes pages in a snap. Love that it has built in safety software and Google search is the best. Make sure you take the time to explore Settings, but go slowly when making changes…don’t make too many all at once. That way it’s easier to gauge what you did and how to reverse it if you need to. You’ll be amazed at what you can do w/your Chromebook once you get used to it not being Windows. I would recommend this and would by again.

Battery life is fantastic, delivery was as promised. This lap top worked okay for 6 weeks, but having an issue and will have to return the item, unless a work around can be recommended.

Bought this refurbished and so far it has run flawlessly. Two things I did not understand about Chromebooks going in (this was my first). You must have wifi or you are dead in the water. If your internet connection goes down you have no offline capabilities. Second, if you want to play games, the ONLY games you can play are those in the Google Play Store. I don’t watch movies on my laptop, but I suspect my Amazon Prime membership will not allow me to view movies on my Chromebook. Due to these limitations I will probably be shopping for an alternative soon, but given the $200 I paid for this unit it was a bargain.

agree with other the search button is very annoying…i keep hitting it instead of the A kep every. damn. time. do you know how many passwords i’ve messed up b/c of this! Who’s idea was that?
anyway, the rest of my opinion is positive. it does a good job. i just got this for my mom who is not computer savvy. just
goes on facebook, and reads emails. this is perfect for her. built in virus protection keeps my anxiety down b/c she
doesn’t check for security and such….so this way i feel a bit better about her not wrecking the pc. i think it’s a good value for the money, but it’s relative to what you plan to use it for.

I am not new to computers whether they be desktop, laptop or tablet. This Acer Chromebook 15 has been a super surprise. Where have you been all my life? This, for me, is the best computer I now own. Keep in mind I have an iMac 21.5″ desktop, 15″ MacBook Pro and two 8″ tablets. This chromebook is lightning fast, has super battery life compared to all my other gadgets and is simple to use. It’s lightweight with a huge 15.6″ screen that is sharp enough and colorful enough for my demanding requirements. Did I mention the great price? I highly recommend this computer.
