I have a 5 liter countertop boiler for heating water for tea, soup, anything that needs near-boiling water. It has an electric pump in it to dispense the water, at the press of a button or by holding the container you want to dispense into against a small lever, similar to a soda fountain. The boiler tank is stainless steel, and can get a build-up of minerals on it over time, but the worst is the pump and the hose that carries the hot water to the dispenser nozzle. THAT gets clogged with minerals after a while. You can scour out the tank if you want, but there’s no way to scrub out the pump and hose. For that, you need to dissolve the minerals out.

I filled the tank with cold water and added a single packet of Dezcal. Even though the instructions call for a packet to treat a liter of water, it works fine in this case on five liters. This is because the descaler works on the minerals the entire time the tankful heats up. It doesn’t have to just work while it’s flowing from the smaller tank of a coffeepot to the spout. As it heated up, I put a big 1-liter pyrex measuring cup under the spout, and pressed the button to dispense water. The nozzle and pump inlet were very crusty with minerals, so it was a tiny trickle only…which is why I was treating it to begin with. This let some of the warm cleaner into the pump inlet, hose, and nozzle, where I let it sit another few minutes as the tank continued to heat. Every few minutes, I’d push the button to let a bit more flow through the pump, the solution in the assembly slowly eating the minerals away. By the time I could get the first liter through, the flow was almost completely restored.

I poured out the first liter into the sink, replaced the cup, and ran another liter through in a few long streams. This was to make sure there was strong, hot descaler solution in the system. By the time I got the entire 5 liters pumped through, the entire thing was clean and descaled. Then I ran two full tanks of clean water through the system to remove the remaining cleaning chemical.

Dezcal cleaned out the minerals in this boiler with a minimum of effort, and best of all, NO NASTY VINEGAR SMELL! I hate using vinegar to clean the coffee maker or the boiler, because the whole house smells like a pickle barrel for hours. This had no smell whatsoever!

I still have three doses in the box to use when the minerals build back up again! This was effortless! Well worth the cost!

No unpleasant odor. No aftertaste. No sweat. Just add a packet to a liter or quart of water in your expresso machine reservoir, and then run it through the boiler and group head with the portafilter in place just like pulling shots. When the reservoir runs dry be ready to immediately pour fresh water to the top. It’s not good to allow the boiler to run dry which could burn out the heating element. Run at least three more times after switching to clear clean water and you are good to go.

  6. Quality not what expected. Cheap, like you might find at WM. Lightweight is not good in a kitchen knife

Soak some calcium encrusted accoutrements in it. Come back in 10 minutes and calcium is gone.

I read a lot of reviews of numerous descaling products before deciding on this one. From what I can tell, it has descaled my coffee maker, and it did not leave any residual taste when I made subsequent cups of coffee. I do have a non Keurig, K cup type Of coffee maker, and I followed the instructions given by the coffee maker. I would recommend this product.

This product does exactly what it claims. Cleans the coffee maker of scale build-up. Easy to use. What to do is follow the instructions: mix 32 oz of water to one packet of cleaner and run it through the coffee maker brew cycle. If your coffee maker has a cleaning setting option use that. Then what I do is let the water cool, top off the craft with cold water and run it through the coffee maker a second time. Then run a full craft of fresh water through the coffee maker. This un-sticks and un-scales the internals. Even frees up some kind of plunger rod connected to the water fill lid on my Cuisinart so the lid again closes smoothly. Works perfect. Vinegar just doesn’t cut it. Get this stuff. You’ll be glade you did.

I use these to descale our coffee maker monthly. Easy directions & more importantly they do a great job! Coffee tastes so much better afterward & I can see the results during the descaling process. A good product. Will continue to purchase.
